Cary Audio Design would like to announce that the Xciter Series
Digital to Analog Converter is now
shipping!
The
new Cary Audio Design Xciter D/A is more than simply a new
product. The Xciter DAC contains cutting edge offerings from
AKM Digital Devices along with new analog output devices from
National Semiconductor. The National Semi metal can output
devices were custom engineered specifically for Cary Audio
Design. The heart of the Xciter D/A is the AKM model AK4399
32-Bit chip running at a 192kHz sampling rate. The soul of
the Xciter D/A are the National Semi metal case TO-99 current
feedback model LME4970NA direct coupled to the model LME49713 TO-99
final output devices. Over one year in development, the
Xciter D/A offers a new level of home/office audio performance in a
sleek, compact package. For the computer audio/video
enthusiast there is nothing like driving the Xciter D/A from the
USB output of your desktop, laptop or audio/video media
server.
There
are four selectable digital inputs on the rear panel consisting of
a coaxial RCA, coaxial BNC, Toslink and a digital USB computer
input. All four of these inputs are front panel selectable
with corresponding blue LED’s indicating the selected
source. The basic signal path of both the coaxial and Toslink
inputs are software controlled and drive the AKM model AK4115
digital receiver device. The digital receiver in turn is
direct coupled to the AKM model AK4399. These digital signals
are then re-clocked within the Xciter D/A, sent to the National
Semi metal can TO-99 current feedback output devices then out to
the rear panel, single-ended RCA analog output
jacks.
The
USB 2.0 input receives a 24-48 kHz data stream which bypasses the
receiver chip and is sent directly to the CM-108 device. This
stream is then stripped as the bus separates the clock and data
signals, resulting in a connection with an extremely low noise
floor where jitter is almost nonexistent. This re-clocked
stream is directed by the on board software of the Xciter DAC to
the main AK4399 32 bit, 192 kHz processor chip, then out to the
rear panel, single-ended RCA analog output
jacks.

Listening
to Cary Audio's flagship amplifier
is a true mind-blowing experience!
The
CAD 211s employ a big pair of 845 output tubes run in push-pull
class A to 70 watts, class A1 to 110 watts and beyond, with zero
feedback. The driver tubes are a pair of 300Bs, the input tube is a
single 6SL7, current source tube is a 6CA7, and there is a 1629
"cat’s-eye" tube on the front panel for power indication.
4-,8-,and 16-ohm speaker connections are provided. A detachable
power cord, single-ended and balanced inputs, a brightness control
for the cat’s eye, standby and power switches are all
provided. The power transformer has a 300 percent duty cycle and is
impregnated with silicon wax to eliminate
vibration.

The RP-1 is a standalone room correction processor that can be
inserted
in any conventional pre-/power amplifier set up. This is the

The Herron VTPH-2 Phono
Preamplifier was created to address the retrieval of musical
information from vinyl LPs without any compromise. The original
design was only intended for use by a few dedicated music lovers in
their cutting edge audio systems. The design was so good, and
demand so high, that the unit was refined and engineered to meet
the requirements for a more durable unit manufactured in larger
quantities. In the process, important refinements were developed
and discoveries were made about tolerances and the threshold of
human hearing limits.
Cartridge Loading:The moving coil inputs
can be loaded to a particular cartridge specification by externally
connecting the appropriate resistors using the "MC LOAD" RCA
connectors on the back of the unit, or they can be internally
soldered at the MC INPUTS circuit board (this should only be done
by a competent technician).
The moving coil inputs have no load resistors installed unless
specified by the customer when the unit is ordered from Herron
Audio. We recommend trying the VTPH-2 in the no-load configuration
as the unit is supplied for most moving coil cartridges. 47,000
(47k) ohm RCA load plugs are supplied with the unit for optional
use. Additional user specified loading plugs can also be purchased
with the unit.
The moving magnet inputs are factory loaded at 47,000 (47k) ohms,
100pF (standard loading for moving magnet
cartridges).

"Our goal was to manufacture a High Energy, LOW impedance MC
cartridge by designing a high-efficiency magnetic circuitry. The
main hindrance in producing such a circuit lies within the
inability of the pole piece and materials used to build the pole,
to become highly magnetically saturated. This problem was solved
after many many years of exhaustive research. Developed was the
core material called SH-uX. A material with a large saturation flux
density and ultra high permeability that is 3 times the
conventional Hi-u core. The advantages are a coil with less
windings thereby reducing the internal electrical loss to a minimum
but yet producing a high output voltage. Sonically the Air Tight PC
